Lab Safety Training Reactives
Great new laboratory Safety series created in PowerPoint© These new customizable courses provide comprehensive coverage of important lab safety topics in a complete course package containing:
Laboratories are the site of many potential hazards, including the many hazards presented by the chemicals themselves. Reactives are usually associated with violent reactions, including explosions. However, this hazard class covers quite a number of categories for dangerous reactions. The hazardous reactions might include the formation of highly toxic gases, the development of high pressures or temperatures, the spontaneous development of heat, or explosions. The following categories of "reactive" reactions are covered in detail.
Information on the special hazards of each category is presented. Special handling considerations are explained. Environmental factors that lead to reactivity are detailed. Storage considerations are itemized for each category. Reactive chemicals are grouped as a category due to the safety hazards associated with their use and storage, not because of their similar acute or chronic health effects. Therefore, each reactive category hazard is described in detail. Specific chemicals are listed for each category. In each category, handling and storage procedures are described. Precautions to take while handling each category are outlined. Finally specific first aid procedures are listed.
