Great new laboratory Safety series created in PowerPoint©. These new customizable courses provide comprehensive coverage of important lab safety topics in a complete course package containing:
Today employees are more apt to be glued in one place, performing long, intensive tasks that require awkward and repetitive movements. As a result, disorders of the joints, muscles, nerves, bones and tendons are increasingly causing pain and lost motor movement. These ergonomic disorders are recently receiving the attention they deserve for laboratory operations. In this course, information is presented to educate laboratory employees about options available to prevent these disabling disorders. The student will be enabled to:
Five risk factors common in most laboratories are described: forceful exertions, repetition, deviated posture, contact stresses and sustained static exertions. Each of the risk factors is described and identified with common practices. Specific laboratory operations that present increased ergonomic hazards are described: repetitive pipetting, keyboard and mouse use, microscopy, work bench use and micromanipulation. For each of these operations, preventative methods are also listed. Five common ergonomic disorders are also described, along with the symptoms and possible causes. With this information, the student may identify potential problems before they evolve into medical concern.
